ICOMBO mission and objectives
The mission of the International Council of Multiple Birth Organisations (ICOMBO) is to raise awareness of the unique needs of multiple birth infants, children, adults and their families promoting their health, education and welfare.
ICOMBO’s objectives are to:
- Promote the principles detailed in the Declaration of Rights and Statement of Twins and Higher Order Multiples.
- Provide a structure to enable individuals and multiple-birth organisations to share and develop resources.
- Promote and conduct projects and research regarding multiple birth development, care, and education.
- Disseminate information and results of ICOMBO research projects particularly via Twin Research.
- Promote membership of ICOMBO to multiple birth organisations worldwide.
Members are able to contact each other via email or through a closed Facebook group. Some member organisations have donated electronic resources, e.g. information on multiples in school that are freely available to all members to use. ICOMBO provides a unique opportunity to connect with other multiple birth groups and to participate in research concerning multiples. Members receive a regular newsletter from ICOMBO and ISTS (International Society of Twin Studies). AMBA clubs are able to access these newsletters and all ICOMBO electronic resources via the AMBA ICOMBO Representative. Alternatively, AMBA clubs have the right to join ICOMBO directly and receive their own newsletters and access to online materials etc.
