AMBA is a fully volunteer run not-for-profit organisation consisting of multiple birth families. With no paid executive staff, AMBA’s board, state/territory bodies and clubs are managed and operated by volunteer parents of multiples from all walks of life and experience.
In order for AMBA to achieve our goals and ensure we are delivering on our priorities, we need the support of our community of volunteers. We achieve all of our goals via an integrated structure between local clubs, state bodies, national project teams and the Board of Directors. AMBA's volunteers work to develop and implement a plan of action that will create a strong national organisation, ensuring we continue to improve health outcomes for multiple birth families.

AMBA Board of Directors
The AMBA Board of Directors is a hybrid model of a typical board and an executive management team, known as a working board. AMBA's federated member-club model requires our board to take on all roles of providing leadership and strategy, setting and maintaining vision, mission and values and ensuring compliance with governing documents.
AMBA Board of Directors
The Australian Multiple Birth Association's (AMBA) origins date back to a group of mothers who gathered in Newcastle in 1969 and formed a Mothers of Twins Club to provide support for each other on the journey of being multiple birth mothers.
Over time, similar clubs began to appear across the country. AMBA was founded in 1974 to bring these clubs together, and is now a registered Australian charity run by volunteers with a board of directors and over 40 clubs nationally.
AMBA supports families with twins, triplets or more through the health and emotional challenges they face – the key ones being premature birth and mental health risks.
AMBA's mission is to enable positive health outcomes, promote awareness and equality for multiple birth families through advocacy, education and community. AMBA works nationally to liaise with governments and other community organisations; initiate and promote research; produce and distribute literature.
Mission and impact
Our mission is to enable positive health outcomes, awareness and equality for multiple birth families through advocacy, education and community.
Our purpose
The grassroots purpose of the Australian Multiple Birth Association is to provide support from 'those who know'. By focusing on improving health outcomes for multiple birth families and by providing local, practical support, we stay aligned to our mission and can work to deliver the impact we strive for.
Our Vision
To be the leading resource for multiple birth families in Australia for social support, literature and educational information.
Our Impact
The Australian Multiple Birth Association is classified by the Australian Not for Profit and Charities Commission (ACNC) under Advancing Health and Health Promotion Charity subtypes. Programs and services offered by the Australian Multiple Birth Association are aligned with the purpose of these subtypes to ensure that our organisational activities will result in the outcomes we seek for our families.
Amongst plenty of positive experiences and the joys of raising multiples, the multiple birth community also face challenging realities such as poorer health outcomes for mothers and babies. Health is not just the absence of disease, but encompasses a holistic view of positive physical, mental and social well-being. As the only national charity supporting multiple birth families, it is the role of the Australian Multiple Birth Association to work towards a world where multiple birth families experience positive health outcomes, where the community around them are aware of the issues they face, and that multiples and their families are treated fairly without prejudice.
Sustaining our impact.
Our mission makes it clear where we must focus our attention to ensure the strongest impact.
AMBA illustrated work towards our new mission via an updated strategy that the Board of Directors presented at National Convention in 2018. It has been refined a bit since, as our collective insights as a board have broadened, individual experiences have influenced us and we have gained more insights into the reality of AMBA’s potential impact.
